In a desperate attempt to prevent ex-president Carlos Menem from clinching the Peronist presidential nomination, the administration of Eduardo Duhalde yesterday urged Santa Fe Carlos Reutemann to change his mind and run in the party’s primaries in the hope he may defeat Menem. But Reutemann immediately dismissed that possibility by saying: "I maintain my stance. I am not a candidate."
